Rotary quarter launches new year

As Rotary-North says, we are “a club that makes a difference.”

And a nearly full house at the Jan. 6 club luncheon enjoyed the smartly-packaged video quarterly report and smooth music produced by President Melinda Keberle.

Dozens of photos showed speaker programs, club projects, social gatherings and special events, such as the holiday luncheon with the Holmes Elementary School choir members.

The projects included helping at 2nd Harvest  and Tom’s Turkey Drive. (Melinda must have paid dearly for her son, Landen, wearing the full turkey suit at Rosauers.)

Concluding her visual report, she said, “It’s important to see what we have done.”

The new quarter has a full agenda.  Keberle said the club needs to fill the vacant secretary position – incumbent Tim Zacharias moved to Texas to attend to family health issues – and to consider new officers and directors for Rotary 2020-21.

Steve Bergman will be the next club president and Steve Perry said he will help with membership growth efforts.

Melinda said she will help direct fund-raising efforts next fall, but needs several members to help out with the assignments.  Also, the club is looking at alternative venues for the wine-themed fund-raising event.  The club hopes to secure a site next month.

A final video clip included film of Holmes counselor Grant Caldwell, alias “Maximus Attendus,” who patrolled the halls in a poor-man Caesar’s gladiator’s costume, carried on a push cart.  What a great way to make a point about getting to school!

His video was shared district-wide – another way to make a difference at Holmes.
